This side-street café boasts saudável food and a choice way-back garden. Herbs and fruit trees hug mismatched tables topped with vintage china and fallen leaves. Street cats come and go. The city and its noises fade quickly from memory. You could sit here for hours with a thick book and a rosemary water.
Our Menu do dia (12.50 euros) included a soup of carrot, apple and coconut milk which was pretty and delish. The main course, stuffed fish with a green-pea sauté and an array of side veggies, was delightful but too plentiful (and not as daintily arranged). My favorite eat was the simple, sliced apricot – I (heart icon) adding a counterpoint of ripe fruit to savory dishes. (Blueberries on tacos, try it! You won’t be sorry.)
My daughter the dessert-eater boldly ordered the cake of the day, which was a chocolate, avocado and mango tarte. She appreciated it but didn’t love it – but it was gorgeous on the plate! And probably chock-full of vitamins. Too healthy for a teenager who still eats wheat?
Mom’s fly: the very occasional drift of pet aroma
Daughter’s fly: the chocolate covered lemon slice she ordered was long and loggish, an eye sore on the plate
